These two elements really go hand in hand. Using my knowledge of nutrition I hope to help you better understand the relationship between being in a calorie deficit and losing weight. It’s not about restricting any foods completely, for the weight loss to be sustainable you need to better understand how to create the right balance for your body. Everyone loses weight at different rates but the goal is to maintain the weight loss sensibly, leaving with you with life long healthy habits. As well as teaching you about the kinds of food you should be eating and advising you on portion size, I’ll also be guiding you on the most efficient ways to lose unwanted fat and build muscle. You’ll always be treated as an individual. Many people realise generic dieting programs don’t work for them- our approach is centred around you.

Understanding how your body is using the fuel you put into it makes a serious difference to achieving weight loss. We all consume fats, carbohydrates and protein- most people want to use the fats for energy as they assume this will lead to more fat loss. It doesn’t actually work like this- which food group your body draws from is dependent on the kind of activity you’re doing. The body primarily uses fat and carbohydrates for fuel. A small amount of protein is used during exercise, but it’s mainly used to repair and build the muscles after exercise. The ratio of these fuels shifts according to the activity you’re engaging in. During higher intensity exercise such as running, the body is more reliant on carbs for fuel than fat because the metabolic pathways available to break down carbs for energy are more efficient than those available for fat breakdown.

Weight loss isn’t about the type of fuel you use, it’s about the calories you burn as opposed to how many you take in. Low intensity exercise still plays a pivotal role in developing your core, endurance, flexibility and balance. We look to form a well-rounded routine, and as I get to know you better, we can create workouts which combine high and low intensity exercise along with weight lifting for optimal results.

I have always tried to stay in excellent shape but work and injuries have gotten in the way. It was time to get back on track. Being in international business I asked some of my most fit and prominent colleagues how they do it and AJ’s name came up more than once. One recommendation came from a guy that is very influential in the government and partially owns a professional sports team; hence I thought AJ was worth the call. I’m glad I did. What an amazing talented guy…patient, sincere and excellent in what he does. I’m dealing with a partially torn rotator cuff and now my Physical Therapist was so impressed with my workout that he is starting to incorporate some of AJ’s training into his practice. I’m in the US and wish I was in the UK to get local 1:1 training but live Zoom is the next best thing, but I will definitely stop in when I’m in town on business (whenever that is after Covid-19).
